*The BUSY vs VALUE Matrix*
Organisations don't necessarily suffer from a lack of effort—they suffer when effort fails to create value.
*BUSY BUT STUCK*
Being busy is not proof of being productive.
BUSY vs VALUE: Are You Creating Impact or Just Creating Activity?
In today’s corporate world, being busy is often mistaken for being productive.
A packed calendar.
Back-to-back meetings.
Hundreds of emails.
Long working hours.
Constant firefighting.
But here is the uncomfortable question:
How much VALUE is all that activity actually creating?
I created the BUSY vs VALUE Matrix to look at this differently.
🔹 Low Busy + Low Value — Disengaged
Little activity. Little contribution. Something needs to change.
🔹 High Busy + Low Value — Busy But Stuck
This is perhaps the most dangerous quadrant. People are working hard, but their effort isn't translating into meaningful outcomes.
🔹 Low Busy + High Value — Smart Contributors
They prioritise, simplify, leverage technology and focus on what truly matters.
🔹 High Busy + High Value — Value Creators
They combine ownership, execution and purpose to create measurable impact.
The goal isn't to make people busier.
The goal is to make their effort more valuable.
Because:
Activity is what you do.
Productivity is what you accomplish.
Value is what changes because you did it.
Perhaps organisations should stop asking:
“How busy are our people?”
And start asking:
“What is becoming better because of their work?”
💬 Where do you think most organisations are today—Busy, Productive, or Truly Valuable?
I'd love to hear your perspective.
