Google Search Console shows a “Core Web Vitals” report, PageSpeed Insights gives you a score out of 100, and somewhere in between, most business owners lose track of what is actually being measured. Core Web Vitals are not a single grade — they are three separate, independent measurements of how real visitors experience your page.

Quick answer: Core Web Vitals are three Google metrics — Largest Contentful Paint (loading speed, good under 2.5 seconds), Interaction to Next Paint (responsiveness, good under 200 milliseconds), and Cumulative Layout Shift (visual stability, good under 0.1). Google measures all three from real visitor data, at the 75th percentile, meaning a page only “passes” when most real visits meet the good threshold on all three metrics at once.
