The India–New Zealand FTA has come into force from 20 October 2026, giving Indian exporters zero-duty access to New Zealand across all tariff lines.
For the Rubber & Plastic industry, this is a strong opening:
✅ Duties of up to 10% on plastic and rubber products have been eliminated.
✅ The FTA covers 397 tariff lines, including plastic products, rubber goods, industrial components, packaging materials and consumer products.
✅ New Zealand imports around USD 2.05 billion of plastics and rubber products annually from the world — a sizeable market for Indian MSMEs.
✅ India’s plastic & rubber exports reached USD 13 billion in FY25, while exports to New Zealand rose from USD 18.87 million to USD 23.66 million — showing clear growth potential.
Opportunity areas:
Plastic packaging, containers, household products
Rubber components, seals, hoses, moulded and extruded products
Industrial plastics, pipes, fittings and construction materials
Auto rubber parts, engineering components and customised products
To claim the zero-duty benefit, exporters must comply with the FTA Rules of Origin and obtain the prescribed Certificate of Origin.
This is the right time for Indian rubber and plastic manufacturers to identify New Zealand buyers, review HS classifications, prepare FTA documentation, and enter a duty-free market. 🚀
