Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, emphasised today the importance of striving to quadruple bilateral trade between India and Africa by 2030. Addressing the valedictory session of the 20th edition of the CII India Africa Business Conclave in New Delhi, Mr Goyal stated that trade between India and Africa is fairly balanced, with India's exports and imports totaling 42.7 billion dollars and 40 billion dollars, respectively. The Minister also emphasized that the two countries have complementary strengths in agriculture, food security, healthcare, critical minerals, renewable energy, construction, mining, water, wood, and lighting services. He claimed that Indian manufacturers can play an important role in satisfying Africa's growing demand for inexpensive mobility solutions. Mr. Goyal also highlighted India's assistance to Africa during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Minister also stated that India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) might help to reduce transaction costs and enhance Africa's financial systems. He urged African nations to join India on global platforms such as the World Trade Organization, claiming that the Global South is the authentic voice of the developing world. Inviting African countries to increase engagement with India. In return, India might increase its imports of African resources, such as key minerals and petroleum. He stated that this balanced exchange will benefit both regions by expanding commerce, creating jobs, and establishing long-term industrial ties.

Banana Exports to Russia.

Russia is set to significantly boost its banana imports from India, with plans to import between 300,000 and 500,000 metric tonnes annually. This move is expected to strengthen trade relations between the two nations.

Throughput per unit of constraint: In the Theory of Constraints, the "constraint" is the part of the process that limits the overall system's output. The idea is to optimize throughput by focusing on improving the performance of the constraint.

Return on Investment (ROI): In throughput accounting, ROI is calculated based on throughput, investment, and operating expenses. The goal is to maximize throughput while minimizing investment and operating expenses to maximize ROI.

Key Concepts:

Focus on Constraints: The theory suggests that every organization has one or more bottlenecks (constraints) that limit the overall performance of the system. These constraints must be identified and optimized to improve throughput.

Simplified Costing: Instead of using traditional methods like absorption or activity-based costing, throughput accounting simplifies the approach by emphasizing revenue and direct costs (like raw materials) while treating fixed costs and overheads as operating expenses.

Advantages of Throughput Accounting:

Focus on profitability: It helps businesses make decisions that increase profitability by emphasizing the relationship between sales and the variable costs involved in producing products.

More aligned with TOC: Throughput accounting works hand-in-hand with the Theory of Constraints by focusing on the system’s overall flow and helping to remove bottlenecks.

Unprocessed plant products (excluding seaweed, aquatic plants, and greenhouse crops).

Processed plant-based foods (including those with third-country certified ingredients processed in either India or Australia).

Organic wine.​

Certification Equivalence: Each country now recognizes the other’s organic certification systems, removing the need for double inspection or certification.​

Trade Growth: Expected to significantly boost India’s organic exports, which were valued at USD 8.96 million in FY 2024–25, mainly psyllium husk, coconut milk, and rice.​

Market Access: Allows Australian organic producers (including wine and cereals) easier access to India’s rapidly growing USD 2.9 billion organic market, projected to reach USD 16.5 billion by 2033.​
